Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy offers clients a safe and nonjudgmental atmosphere to address specific
concerns or issues. Some of the benefits of psychotherapy or "talk therapy" include
improved communication skills, more satsfying relationships, enhanced coping skills,
and significant reduction in feelings of distress. Therapy is not a "quick fix" and
some individuals may feel worse before they feel better. Typically, therapy sessions
are scheduled weekly, however, they may be scheduled more or less frequently depending
on the needs of the client.
Acupuncture
Dr. Blanchfield became interested in acupuncture as adjunct treatment for pain. Acupuncture has been practiced in China for over 2000 years. The treatment involves inserting thin, sterilized stainless-steel needles into specific points on the body. These points are located close to the surface and have been used to stimulate various biochemical and physiological responses in the brain and body. The treatment is virtually painless and is extremely safe.
Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is biofeedback for the brain. Using computerized feedback, the brain learns to increase or decrease certain brainwaves , and then feedback is given with a specially designed computer game. Some of the most common problems addressed with neurofeedback are ADD/ADHD, Depression, Migraines and Seizure Disorders.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis involves the use of various skillful methods to teach a person to relax deeply and then to focus his or her attention very intensely on certain thought, images, feeling, sensations, etc. When this happens, the person becomes more receptive to suggestions fro positive change and finds it easier to change without special conscious effort.
Biofeedback
Biofeedback uses electronic sensors to pick up signals from the body, which are transformed by a computer into auditory and visual feedback, in order to help people learn to better regulate their own bodies and behavior. Biofeedback training helps people gain more conscious control over their physiology and emotions. It is often used to track headaches, sleep problems, depression, anxiety and chronic pain.
Massage Therapy
Massage is one of the oldest forms of therapy; massage is much more than applying pressure or vibration to the soft tissues of the body or to produce a pleasant sensation on the skin. Massage works on the muscles, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments. It not only improves the muscle tone but it also stimulates blood circulation and assists the lymphatic system improving the elimination of waste throughout the body. Regular massage may heal injuries, relieve psychological stress and tension. It can stimulate or calm the nervous system reducing fatigue and stress. Massage has the potential to restore the individual physically, mentally and spiritually.
Medication
We will continue to treat neuropsychiatric illness in the traditional .western. method of medication combined with talk therapy when appropriate. Dr. Blanchfield and all of the nurses continue to study psychopharmacology and remain current in new drugs and technologies available today.
Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a systematic process to return the balance and ease innate in all of us. Accidents, surgeries and many forms of trauma can unconsciously become part of a pattern that interferes with our coordination. As we undo the pattern, a sense of ease and joy in movement return. We become more fully connected to what Alexander called .The Whole Person.
